Alberta to Introduce a Brand-New Expression of Interest System on September 30, 2024

A new expression-of-interest system is about to go into action for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program on September 30, 2024. This portrays a significant turn in the management of immigration into the province. Among the changes, it entails that Alberta is not going to continue with the remainder of the monthly application acceptance dates for 2024.

In the new system, candidates will join a selection pool when they submit their applications. Further invitations to apply are based on the ranking but also consider the province of the candidates and current labor market needs. Up to July 25, 2024, there were 446 web form submissions received for the selection pool, thereby indicating strong interest from potential immigrants.

Key Facts of the New EOI System:

Launch Date: September 30, 2024

Selection Process: Candidates will be issued an invitation to apply if their ranking is high enough and if the labor market requires their skills.

Current Submissions: 446 web form submissions as of July 25, 2024.

New PR Immigration Program for Police Officers In conjunction with the EOI system, Alberta is developing a new permanent residency immigration program for those immigrants who are looking to work as police officers in Canada. It requires a candidate to have a valid job offer from an Alberta Association of Chiefs of Police member and other eligibility criteria. The occupations that are included in this category are:

  1. Commissioned and Non-Commissioned Police Officers
  2. Police Investigators
  3. Other specialized law enforcement roles.

Permanent Residency Growth According to the IRCC, in 2023 Alberta resettled 57,585 new permanent residents, which represents a 16.3% increase compared to 2022. The year-over-year growth of PRs resettled under each immigration program constitutes as follows:
