CBC News Investigates Human Smuggling on Quebec-N.Y. Border

A U.S. farmer demonstrated for CBC News how many immigrants are crossing illegally from Quebec across his property, even as a suspected terrorist arrested in Ormstown, Que., brought attention to border security woes.

Immigration Minister Marc Miller did not outline new measures but indicated the government is pursuing visa integrity measures. He added that might deter individuals from changing their ways if details were released publicly.

Social media posts on sites such as Instagram and TikTok show migrants claiming it’s easy to fly to Montreal and walk into the U.S., which Miller described as blatant. He has discussed the issue with U.S. officials, emphasizing a need for secure borders.

Miller focuses on the fact that smuggling networks may be organized and sometimes even criminal networks, thus demanding an all-encompassing response from well-equipped security services.
