The latest releases from the European Union statistical office, Eurostat, indicate that 96% of Malta’s recent graduates found jobs in 2023. This places Malta at the top of the list of 22 EU countries as far as employment is concerned. With the current employment rate higher than that of the EU’s average of 83.5%, Malta has given its recent graduates the highest possibility of being placed on a job. This is followed by the Netherlands, Iceland, Germany, and then Austria. Overall, the employment rate for third-level EU graduates has increased over the course of the last decade, reaching rates of approximately 84 percent in 2023.

Malta is looking for high-skilled workers who might be needed in such occupations. It has just introduced the Specialist Employee Initiative, an option available to skilled TCNs who do not qualify under its Key Employee Initiative but who otherwise have the skills and experience required by certain specified jobs in Malta. Only TCNs with employment contracts from companies registered in Malta are eligible to apply under this scheme, according to the Maltese government agency Identita.
