Illegal Immigration Crisis

Illegal Immigration Crisis Declared as Emergency by Trump

President Elect-Donald J Trump has made a plan for mass deportation of the Illegal Immigrants who have entered US soil. This plan involves  Trump’s national emergency declaration and using military assets for this agenda to become a success. This has to do with the current government’s claim they’re doing this to reverse the ‘Biden’s illegal immigration crisis’ as this matter has risen to be a national security and immigration concern for the country.

Official Announcement

Tom Fitton, a conservation activist, reported earlier this month that Trump’s illegal immigration agenda will take action if he is elected president. On this Monday, the President-Elect reposted this media post with a reply ‘TRUE!!!’, confirming his plan to take harsh actions against the ‘illegal immigrants’.

Trump annoucement

Impact of Previous Government’s Policy

After getting into office, Ex-President Biden initiated new immigration reforms that aimed to reverse harsh U.S. immigration policies set at the time;

Removing the Harsh Restrictions: Biden aimed to make immigration into the States more accessible, preserve deportation relief, and remove many rigid restrictions set at that time.

Citizenship Pathways:  They also suggested creating an eight-year-long immigration plan for unauthorised immigrants settled in the U.S.

Spouse Visa: This program was introduced as a pathway for illegal immigrants who have married a U.S. citizen to become eligible for a ‘Green Card’.

National Emergency Declaration: Trump's Strategy

During his election campaign, Trump repeatedly affirmed his intent to take action against the continuous entry of illegal immigrants and ensure they leave American soil. After he took office, Trump’s immigration strategy was set into motion. This announcement did not shock the majority of Americans as they elected Trump to be their president once again and they expected the new U.S. immigration policies to get stricter.

Implication for Future Immigration Policies:

  • Comparatively, to Kamala, Trump has been open with his view that for any or all job vacancies native Americans should be prioritised before outsourcing new employees from abroad. With him in the office now, the future of immigrants is predicted to lessen towards America and opt for other countries like Canada which offers a similar but smoother immigration process for anyone that wishes to migrate somewhere.
  • There is another opinion among experts suggesting that the introduction of removing illegal immigrants from the U.S. will create a gap in the job market. Thus, creating new vacancies in America. This situation can be addressed by the government welcoming foreign workers and allowing immigrants to enter the U.S. via the legal registration pathway.

Public Reaction

This immigration reform news has garnered a mixed reaction from the masses.

Ilhan Omar: A Democratic Minnesota congresswoman is concerned with the potential cruelty people might get and has stated that no human should be subjected to such treatments.

Chris Rossini: Chairperson of Ron Paul Liberty Report has also expressed his worries about the future of this action. He mentioned how this precedent would give a leeway for any future president to use the army to get things done their way.

Tim Young: A conservative social media personality has stated that if your “Abuelita” i.e. your grandmother came to the States illegally then it’s time for you to go back.

To summarise, many agree with the treatment illegal immigrants are about to get. They are, however, concerned with the army being in the streets of society and behaving as a ‘Trump lapdog’. Another concern raised is of future implications if this precedent is made by Trump.

Legal and Economic Implication

This has several implications for both the economic and legal status of the country in the future.

Asylum Policies Amendment: With Trump being in office, we can see a change of trends as he will no doubt introduce tighter immigration policies. With these new U.S. immigration policies in place, it. will become a harder destination for people to get ‘Permanent Residence’ in then to immigrate into.

Market Gap: Even though the people in question have entered the country illegally, they are actively contributing to the country’s GDP. Having these people deported will create a market gap and will require new employees to fill their gaps.

Consumer Spending:  Having people in such a large volume will result in a massive reduction of consumers in America. This will lead to a negative impact on the local businesses.

Border Walls: To Completely stop Illegal border crossings, the President-Elect has put Pentagon funds into border wall expansion. This will put the tax money to go towards securing the border of the country and there is nothing wrong with that with the only exception being that there are other places that would have benefitted from the funds better e.g. “homeless people, healthcare.”

Future Anticipation

What will happen in the future is solely dependent on the level of scrutiny that Trump’s decision will go with. What we can expect is a gap in the job market and additionally a decrease in local sales. Additionally, this action could potentially create tension between the U.S. and other countries because many countries may refuse to take back those citizens who left the country years ago.

Conclusion

This announcement has most definitely made multiple reactions from the public. As mentioned previously, America’s economic condition is solely dependent on the level of scrutiny and the methodology the government decides to take in dealing with such immigrants.
