Minimum salary for UK skilled worker visa to rise

To be eligible for a skilled worker visa to move to the UK your job offer must meet a minimum salary threshold.

At present, this is whichever is the higher out of £26,200 per year, £10.75 per hour, or the “going rate” for your job.

Next spring it will increase to £38,700 a year.

Crucially, however, health and care workers – who form almost half of those on work visas – will not be affected by the increase.

Those on national pay scales – which include teachers – will not be affected.

The Migration Observatory said the chief impact was likely to be on middle-skilled occupations, such as butchers or chefs, where pay is more likely to be below £30,000.
