United States: USCIS extends Green Card validity extension to 36 months for Green Card renewals

This new practice extends validity to 36 months for lawful permanent residents who file a Form I-90, as compared to the present provision of 24 months. Additionally, updated Form I-90 receipt notices may be used with an expired Green Card to establish proof of status and employment authorization. Accommodations assisting in longer processing times show lawful permanent resident status. During this timeframe, they wait for their new Green Cards. This accommodation is useful if they need proof of status but it is not available to them when they no longer have their Green Card. An applicant can schedule an appointment at a USCIS Field Office for an ADIT stamp after Form I-90 is filed.
